Topic 1: introduction

An introduction to GDPR, categories of data, and some common terms used when talking about data protection.

Topic 2: roles and responsibilities

The roles of staff members within an education setting, who is responsible for what, and what duties may be involved for certain roles. This topic also covers policies and assessments a setting must have under data protection law.

Topic 3: processing data

The 7 key principles for collecting, processing, and storing data, and the lawful bases that must apply when doing this.

Topic 4: sharing & storing data

How to safely and correctly share data, including photo policies and how to get consent. How long types of data should be stored, and how to correctly dispose of information that has reached the end of its retention period. This topic also covers how to process data breaches.

Topic 5: personal data requests

How to process Subject Access Requests (SARs) and other information rights requests.
